When Buying Flowers, Moms Rule!

Paging through my customer loyalty program member list the other day confirmed that the most loyal and influential customers of my flower shop are women.

In fact, many of my best business and personal accounts, as well as professional contacts, have come as a result of these well-networked women customers.

Not surprisingly, most of these women are Moms, too. Simply put, when it comes to my business, Moms rule.

There are a lot of misconceptions about how men and women use the internet. I came across an article entitled “Moms Rule the Social Web” that shows the reasons why women (and Moms) are a force to be reckoned with.

It talks about how the social web has really kind of “supercharged” the power and influence of this demographic like never before.

This post shed light on some facts that really surprised me.

The latest Ipsos-Insight FloralTrends Consumer Tracking Study shows that women purchase 79% of floral products sold today.

Actually, I always assumed that the percentage was high, but I didn’t realize it was that high.

If you are trying to grow or change the direction of a floral business today, this is the one demographic you need to learn to work with, pay attention to and cater to.
