Valentine’s Day is one day of the year where you really want to create a special atmosphere to show your special someone how much you love and care about them. However, many people have a great deal of trouble when it comes to finding romantic ideas for Valentine’s Day.

Maybe your feeling extra pressure just because it’s Valentine’s Day and are stressed about getting everything “just right”, or simply because you just don’t know where to start.

No matter the reason, there are many ways to say “I love you!”. Over the years, some of my customers and friends have shared some of their favorite things to do on Valentine’s day, so I thought I’d pass along a few of their ideas you can use to get your creative juices flowing:

  • A romantic candlelight dinner for two…whether you plan and cook a gourmet meal by yourself, just order a pizza and enjoy it by candlelight, or go out to an elegant restaurant with a warm, romantic atmosphere.
  • Spend a quiet evening watching movies and making popcorn at home. You can rent several romantic movies to set the mood for Valentine’s Day, but you don’t have to have the evening focus on romance. Choose movies that you and your partner both will enjoy. For example, try a few different sports-related movies or comedies. Whichever you choose, you are sure to have a great time because you are getting the opportunity to spend some quality time alone with your special someone.
  • A carriage ride is a really romantic idea for Valentine’s Day. Depending on where you live, you are likely to find scenic rides for the occasion. Whether you opt for a ride through the city or nearby scenic areas, you and your partner are sure to enjoy this unique way to spend some time together for Valentine’s. Consider combining the carriage ride with coffee and dessert afterwards.
  • Taking in a theater performance or concert is also a great way to spend Valentine’s Day. These types of events can be especially good ideas if it’s something you don’t do often together. You can spend an afternoon or an evening enjoying a performance of your choice.

I know that some people think Valentine’s day is just another over-hyped Hallmark holiday, but even if you’re one of them, I’m willing to bet you’re going to pick up some small token of your affection, be it flowers, , jewelery, or a card. Even the smallest gesture can mean so much.

I agree we shouldn’t need a special day to say “I love you!”, but it’s not a bad idea when you stop and think about it.

Face it, we’re all very busy. We’re so caught up in all of the various aspects of our daily lives that we often forget to take a few minutes to tell others just how special they really are to us. As a florist, I’ve made my living by doing just that with flowers.

But in my opinion, the number one secret to a truly memorable Valentine experience is knowing the other person well. It’s never about the gift, or how much or how little you spend. Valentine’s Day is a day for expressing love and that means caring enough to know the other person well enough to show them in a way that you both will truly appreciate.

I think each of these ideas are very special ways to tell someone special just how loved they are. Just don’t forget to add a few flowers!
