Brides today are always looking for different ways to make their wedding bouquet stand out. They want their bouquet to be unique.
Sometimes simply thinking a little “outside the box” will help you maximize the impact of your wedding bouquet.
In this video, floral designer J Schwanke offers suggestions about how to effectively use “mass bouquets” in your wedding, and also demonstrates the construction of a “composite” flower, a technique used to maximize the impact of a single flower in your wedding bouquet.
If you are thinking of constructing a composite flower yourself to use as your bouquet or a component of your wedding bouquet, they are not difficult to do with a little practice. Here’s a couple of quick tips:
- Choose flowers with larger petals, like roses, because petal size makes them easier and faster to work with.
My personal favorite for composite flowers are gladiolas, because they have hearty flower petals and hold up well after they are assembled.
- Use a floral adhesive like Oasis Floral Adhesive, which is made especially for use with fresh flowers
Avoid using hot-melt adhesives, as they can damage the petals and does not hold well if
refrigerated.
- If you have not worked with floral adhesives before, spend a little time practicing beforehand. Be sure to read and follow the directions on the label.
This is probably the biggest mistake most people make when it comes to DIY floral design. Follow the directions and you should be able to design a wedding bouquet you’ll be proud to say you did yourself.
