Prom Flowers - Tips for Selecting the Perfect Corsage
Clueless when it comes to buying a corsage? Don't worry, here are a few tips to make buying a corsage easy.
Basically, a corsage is a just small cluster of two or three flowers tied together with ribbon that will complement your date's dress. For prom, it's not an option. Trust me on this one, you don't want to be showing up at your date's home empty-handed.
There are three types of corsages: pin-on corsages, wrist corsages, and nosegays. Nosegays are small, hand-held bouquets. Of the three, wrist corsages are definitely the most popular. I can't remember the last time someone ordered a pin-on corsage from our shop for prom. If you're not sure, ask her what type she'd like, otherwise just go with the wrist.
You'll want to order a corsage a couple of weeks before the prom. Remember, this is your best shot to really impress your date, so don't wait until the last minute.
Roses and carnations have always been corsage favorites, but other flowers, like orchids and mini-calla lilies are also popular choices. A corsage with two or three select blossoms is about right, but can vary with the type of flowers you choose. Your florist can advise you.
The ribbon for the corsage should complement her dress, so it's important to know the color of the dress she'll wear. It doesn't have to be a perfect match, but you don't want it to clash either.
Corsages generally range in price from $10 to $50 -- sometimes more. It depends on the style and choice of flowers. Again, your florist will be able to help you choose a corsage that you like (and will impress your date), and stay on budget, too.
