Wedding Planning Timeline Tips For Fall and Winter Wedding

If you are getting married in late autumn or winter, there are several things in your wedding planning timeline that should be moved to the top of your list and completed soon.

Choosing Colors

By now, the attendant’s dresses have been ordered, so you have a basic color to begin working with.

From there, it’s pretty easy for your florist to suggest flowers that will complement your taste, style, and budget.

When it comes to wedding flowers, colors you traditionally think of for the fall season such as burgundy, orange, rust, and brown still work great.

If you want to expand your color palette a bit, consider olive green, purple, dark yellow and cream, which are also great colors for an autumn wedding.

For a winter wedding, red and white colors are a traditional holiday theme.

But shades of blue, from royal to midnight blue, are also quite popular as well.

Traditional white or ivory colors are always on-trend for winter weddings.

Accented with silver, gold or copper, these traditional shades will give your wedding an elegant, sophisticated look.

Getting Out Your Save the Dates

I’m sure that everyone on your guest list is well aware of your wedding date. You’ve probably called, emailed, and shared it with them on social media.

But the best way to remind them is by sending them a simple save the date card in the mail. Since most of us do not receive as much mail as we once did, your save the date card will keep your wedding date will get noticed and remembered.

Save the dates are especially important for your out-of-town guests who need to make travel arrangements.

They are also important for guests who may need to plan around school or those who may have to arrange for childcare or babysitters. You can be sure they’ll appreciate an advanced heads up.

While traditional etiquette calls for sending save the date cards out six months before the wedding, there is no reason why you can’t send them out 4-5 months out either.

When it comes to Save the Dates, I recommend Shutterfly’s Wedding Shop. My daughters both used them for their weddings.

In addition to their quick turn around time, you can choose from thousands of designs and customize them with your own text, pictures, or whatever! Check out some of the examples below.

Sending Out Your Invitations

Your wedding planning timeline should include the date that your invitations should be sent out, usually about eight weeks before the big day.

Wedding Paper Divas also has hundreds of invitation designs, with nearly 140 specifically for fall and winter weddings.

You can choose a design that matches your colors, a design with or without pictures, and customize them to your tastes. Whatever design you choose, they are sure to impress.

Tip: For best results and potential savings, I suggest ordering all of your wedding stationery at the same time. Many sites, including Wedding Paper Divas, usually offer discounts for ordering matching invitations, programs, menus, and place cards. It also helps you to make certain the designs you choose are exactly the same (colors, fonts, etc.).
